Epitaph

I used to come into your classes
In a big coat and dark glasses
Just to hear you say an honest thing

I'd sneak back out, and then late at night
You'd sneak in and poison the covers
With the smells of your lovers

It's just sex, we used to say
But you started lying, that's when I knew
That I'd never know you another day

Don't you know there's no escaping
The sight of you in that basin
With the red blooming like a rose

That day when the sky was so smooth
I waited by the park, dear
Where were you, where were you?

I sat and watched a bird eating bread
With the sun leaking through the milky clouds
With the red blooming like a rose
